1001 Tips for Military Families – #410

Fraud – Tip #410

There doesn’t seem to be a week that goes by without someone writing me an email to tell me about all the money I could make with a small credit card investment on my end or that they just need my banking information and they will deposit millions for me to hold on to for them or someone calling me to ask me to turn on my computer so that they can help me fix it.  I feel as though, next to seniors, military families seem to be the next targets – it really never ceases to amaze me how low people will go.

Recently, Save and Invest contacted me and at first I thought that they were just another company trying to get money out of military families but after going on their website and using the tools they have I am going to highly recommend checking them out.  They have a four question “Scam meter”, military investment and debt tool kits, free budget sheets, tips on how to improve your credit score, and videos about how to identify fraud and scams.  I have already used some of their resources.  It is a NON PROFIT company and I believe has a lot to offer military families.

Tips for using their site:

  1. Download their worksheets for tracking your expenses and spending and use them (http://www.saveandinvest.org/MilitaryCenter/MilitaryFinancialToolkits/MakingEndsMeet/P124955)
  2. Play “Moneytopia” together as a family (http://www.saveandinvest.org/MilitaryCenter/P124790)
  3. Watch their 4min video on safe guarding against fraud (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=mABf0LN9Jus)
  4. Get a reality check and do your credit score! (http://www.saveandinvest.org/ControlDebt/CreditScore/P124370)
