Tips for When They’re Back – Tip # 49

Music – Tip #49

Creating playlists is another way of expressing yourself, reconnecting and helping to set the mood within the house, at work, in the car, etc.  Music can inspire, give a sense of  hopefulness, provide a sense of calm, let them know how you are feeling, make them laugh or smile and help them to move forward in a positive way.  Before your family member returns spend an afternoon or evening creating some playlists that will do some or all of the above.


* Make playlists for different places (home, car, work, school, etc.)

* Create playlists that will set the mood at different times (getting up in the morning, driving, trying to sleep, to get up in the morning, while jogging, etc.)

* Do a monthly top ten list of your favourite new songs for each month that they are away so they can catch up on what you are listening to and it will also give you something else to talk about

* Have other family members and friends create playlists too

* Make a “While You Were Away Play List”  and explain how the music helped you or made you feel and why you listened to it

* If possible, send your play lists to your absent family member so they can hear it while they are gone too
