Book Recommendation of The Year –
“The Book of Awesome” by Neil Pashricha
This might be the best book of the decade. I would recommend buying a copy for everyone in your house, each staff member, each student in your class. It is a book that reminds you about all the “Awesome” things there are to be happy about. It is a great conversation starter and inspires you to write a list of your own. At one school I worked with they are now writing one about the school and each class is coming up with 100 things. It is a great way to collaborate and keep focused on what is working rather than always looking at what isn’t!
It would be a good book for your family member to take on a deployment (if they aren’t able to there is a website too – http://1000greathings.org) and then you could have a copy and read the same ones. Another activity could be to email about one page a day to your absent family member. Each family member could take turns and give their own ideas too.
