Reader’s Tip #1 – Send Visuals
There is a woman who I work with who is divorced from a military man. He was going through major PTSD which so many go through. Among other things she said that he had a really hard time with the fact that “life goes on” while he was away. She now tries to help another friend in the military by constantly sending him pictures in his care packages (which she sends often). These pictures are not only of people but of changes to the neighbourhood, the city, current events, etc.

This tip also made me think about my home town and how shocked I am when I go back for a visit and so many things have changed that I had no idea about and how it doesn’t feel like home any more. I think that by sending photos of changes in your community, neighbourhood and immediate world around you that your absent family member will feel more a part of it.
