Megan Recommends – Teen Fiction

Megan Recommends – “Wounded” By Eric Walters

This is a great teen fiction novel about military families experiencing deployments, loss, PTSD and re-integration.  In this novel we meet Marcus.  In the beginning of the novel, Marcus has become the head of his household because his Dad is deployed to Afghanistan.  His Dad is often “outside the wire” and cannot have contact with his family for weeks on end.  This causes incredible stress and worry which Marcus often shoulders without sharing his emotions, thoughts or worries with anyone.  When his Dad finally returns home he looks the same although something has changed.  It is these changes that Marcus, his father and everyone in his family need to accept and learn when to ask for help and how to get it.  I believe that this is a book that everyone should read as it will give students experiencing this lifestyle a sense of being understood and those who are not a part of a military family will gain insights and perspective  into the daily stresses, worries and struggles military teens experience everyday.
